In this article, we would like to advise you on the possibilities of how your curtain or curtain could be sewn. Surely each of you has seen a lot of photos of curtains and drapes, how they are beautifully pleated and how is it even possible to do this? We will try to shed some light on this here. In any case, hopefully no one wants to have curtains / only sewn and hung only with warehouses in clips called flip-flops. But what are the possibilities?
Classics
the so-called ordinary tunnel for threading on a pole, this method is practical and is used wherever we want to have a simple way of hanging. But that doesn't mean it can't look good. For example, in such a rustic style, where the tunnel on the rod is sewn under the upper edge about 2 to 5 cm depending on the height of the curtains, an interesting "canary" is created and it then looks very impressive. See subsequent implementation.https: //www.bytema.cz / references / srub-u-medveda-novy-jicin-skalky
Sewing loops of different sizes for threading on a stick
when the standard size of the loops is 10 cm high and 5 cm wide of one loop, the loops are then placed about 20 cm apart and about 7 pieces of loops are needed for a 140 cm wide hinge. The hinge and sewn loops should be reinforced on the back with some transparent / transparent / tape, at least we do it that way
Impact rings
these are metal or plastic rings that strike the hinge.
It is necessary to iron into the hinge, sew the reinforcement so that the rings hold it well. 8 rings are needed for one classic hinge with a width of approx. 140 cm.
There are also possibilities to use different pleating ribbons, when it is important to decide how the curtain or curtain will be attached.
Use of tape / ribbons / for attachment to so-called hidden loops
The tape is simply sewn on the back of the hinge, but be careful to measure it in advance and, if necessary, adjust it so that it starts and ends with an eye for threading. A curtain provided with such a tape will then create beautiful and even folds on the rod.
We offer two types of these straps, 5 and 10 cm high. In general, 5 cm tape is only suitable for short curtains or drapes and can only be threaded on a rod up to 2 cm in diameter, we recommend a maximum of 16 mm, 10 cm tape can be used on a rod up to 45 mm in diameter. Important note: When using this ribbon, it is necessary to realize that the total height of the curtain or curtain must be increased by the diameter of the bar + about 2 cm, as the finished curtain is still about 2 cm above the bar, see the picture below.
Classic pleated ribbons of various widths and pleats style
from 2 cm up to maybe 20 see the catalog of available tapes pdf file here
We most often use this simple pleating tape.
As it is always said, and it is true here, that there is beauty in simplicity. We recommend so-called 1: 2 pleating, ie for a window with a width of 200 cm, it is necessary to buy 400 cm of curtains. As standard, we use a tape 5 or 8 cm high / depending on the height of the curtain, curtain / with a pleats of 1: 2 with simple regular folds, see the picture above.
We recommend an 8 cm tape for a height of approx. 250 cm. Of course, we offer many more types, according to the client's wishes.
This tape, which is sewn to the back hem, is pulled down with strings and creates regular folds. Since the tape has three laces, we recommend sewing it in three places, the stocks are ideal. The advantage is that all these straps have so-called pockets on the hook, which is then directly on the ring, or instead of the hook, the rider is directly into the rail / cornice /.
Curtains and drapes provided with such ribbons then look very elegant and clean, no attachment is visible, because everything is hidden in the pleated ribbon on the back of the curtain or curtain. As we have stated here, there are an incredible number of pleating ribbons, but the principle of sewing and fastening is basically identical.
This should explain at least a little bit what the mounting options are on the top.
The lower edge of the curtain
The bottom hem will be a little easier. Everything is given for curtains, most of them have a lead cord sewn on the bottom hem, see Fig. These are veil curtains, etc. in a modern and simple decor.
In both cases, we only adjust the height to our own dimensions, as today most manufacturers produce curtains only in two heights, namely 180 cm and 300 cm, not only in one, namely 300 cm. However, what we recommend and is very important, and this also applies to hinges, insert a load pencil, see fig weighing 50, 25 or 13 gr.
To the edges on the left and right side of the curtain, so that the edges pull nicely down and do not rise. We recommend a 25g pencil for long light curtains.
Curtains are a decoration of every room, and here we recommend all our customers to create a wider bottom hem, where the rule is that the higher the curtain, the wider the bottom hem. It is often visible to see curtains 300 cm high and with a bottom hem 30 cm high. Such a hinge is then beautifully pulled out and this hem pulls out the hinge by its own weight. We recommend a hem with a height of 250 cm, a hem 10 to 15 cm high, as standard.
Again, we must not forget the pencil to the edges of the curtains, here we use if it is a long curtain from 200 cm and above the largest type of pencil, namely 50 g. the rule is that the heavier the curtain and the heavier the fabric, the heavier the cord.
This is such a simple guide for everyone and for a mere idea of what the possibilities are, of course, far more. We would also like to point out that these are illustrative representative photographs of the manufacturer of pleated ribbons and it is always necessary to take it with a certain overview.
However, all we have mentioned here is a real classic with which most of you will definitely be very satisfied. Here we have created a simple calculator for sewing hinges and curtains to measure, where you can enter the dimensions and type of attachment. And if you even choose a fabric, just put it in the basket and we will prepare everything for you.
If you still need advice on, for example, choosing a fabric to see if it is suitable for your requirements, you don't have to be ashamed at all. Just write, call and we will be happy to advise you.
