How to choose decorative pillows?
There are many criteria. You will probably be most interested in the look, but don't forget to think about what you will use the cushion for, and consider its other features accordingly.
Motif or color Monochrome decorative pillows and patterned ones are available. You can get practically everything. If you have a home decorated in the style of Provence, focus on Provence style pillows. If you are planning a Christmas decoration, take a look at Christmas decoration pillows. For Easter, Easter decorative pillows will come in handy, for Valentine's Day, for example, heart-shaped pillows. This gradually brings us to the second criterion.
Shape and dimensions
The most common are decorative pillows, the typical size is 40 × 40 cm. Cushion covers will be best used for this. However, if you can sew the cover or do not intend to change it, do not be afraid of unusual dimensions. There are also pillows in the shape of rectangles and various shapes, such as ovals, hearts and for children, even animals.
Cushion material
As for the material of the cushion, we are of course mainly talking about its filling. Classic pillows tend to have a cotton padding that is breathable, very soft and has a high volume. You certainly won't spoil anything with it. Polystyrene balls, which adapt to the shape of the body, have a very pleasant effect. Reach for them if you plan to rest on the pillow. Herbal filling is also suitable for decorative pillows. For example, pillows with a lavender motif can be filled with dried lavender. But be careful, the pillows with herbs are very aromatic and you really can't sleep on them. The filling will shrink over time, but it is never a problem to buy and refill it if you want to have the pillows really bloated.
Coating material
The most common is probably cotton, which can be washed without problems. However, if you are choosing a cushion for a luxurious interior, focus on less common and so unobtrusive materials. Gobelin cushions or satin cushions are very nice. Pleasant micro-plush coatings are suitable for winter.
How to take care of decorative pillows to make them last long?
You should wash the cover regularly. How much, usually you read on the label. Cotton coatings can be washed at 40 ° or 60 °. Be careful with those made of structured fabric, micro plush or hairy, wash them at lower temperatures. Washing the pillow itself is always a bit of a risk. If you have a decorative pillow without a cover, you will have nothing else left. It is possible that the filling after washing will not be the same as before, but you can add it at any time. Just rip open a small piece of cushion, add a filling and then sew it again.
